Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition 2019
Terms and conditions

§ 1

  1. These regulations determine the terms and conditions of the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition 2019, hereinafter referred to as the Competition.
  2. The Competition will be held from 23rd to 27th October 2019 in Warsaw.
  3. The Competition is organized by the Warsaw Wind Music Association with its registered office in Warsaw (00-511) at 31 Nowogrodzka Street, having Tax Identification Number 7010831166, National Business Registry Number 380707133, National Court Register 0000737846, hereinafter referred to as the Organizer.

§ 2

  1. The Competition is open to conductors of all nationalities, without age limits.
  2. The condition for entering and qualifying for the Competition is:
      1. to register (by 6 September 20 September 2019) using the registration form available on the website wwecc.warsawwindmusic.pl, which should contain the following data:
        • name and surname of the participant,
        • country and city of origin,
        • date of birth,
        • e-mail telephone contact,
        • short artistic curriculum vitae (up to 900 letters),
        • photo of the participant.
      2. Payment to the account of the Warsaw Wind Music Association of the entry fee in the amount of 200 Euro (until 6 September 20 September 2019): Stowarzyszenie Warsaw Wind Music ul. Nowogrodzka 31, 00-511 Warszawa IBAN: PL 60 1750 0012 0000 0000 4079 3828 Title of the transfer: WWECC 2019 – name and surname of the participant
  1. Submission of the application by the candidate is tantamount to acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  2. Incomplete applications, as well as applications that do not meet the above conditions, will not be considered.
  3. The list of participants qualified for the Competition will be made public by 9 September 27 September 2019 via the Competition website (wwecc.warsawwindmusic.pl).

§ 3

  1. Auditions of the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition 2019 will be held in public. They will consist of three stages to be held:
    • Stage I – 23 to 24 October 2019
    • Stage II – 25 to 26 October 2019
    • Stage III – 27 October 2019
  2. The final gala and the concert of the Competition winners will take place on 27 October 2019.
  3. All qualified participants will be admitted to Stage I, 20 participants to Stage II and 6 finalists to Stage III.
  4. From the first stage of the Competition to the final, the participants will perform in alphabetical order.
  5. In the case of random events (such as communication delays preventing the participant from arriving on time), the participant is obliged to inform the Organiser about the circumstances and may obtain a consent to postpone their performance beyond the current order at the end of the auditions for a given stage.
  6. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the participants.
  7. The Association does not mediate in obtaining a visa, but at the request of individual participants will issue and send a certificate of eligibility to the Competition.

§ 4

  1. Participants of the Competition will conduct:
    • In stage I – two pianos,
    • In stage II – Youth Warsaw Wind Orchestra,
    • In stage III – Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra,
    • During the gala concert – Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra.
  2. The Organiser provides music materials (scores) for the participants of the Competition to compositions by Tomasz Dudziński and Artur Słotwiński by placing them on the Competition website. Other musical materials will be provided in the form of Internet links placed on the Competition website.
  3. Participants of the Competition may use their own music materials (scores).
  4. The Organiser shall not be liable for any infringement of copyrights of third parties by a participant of the Competition who uses his own musical materials.
  5. The course of the stages and the repertoire of the Competition:

Stage I

    • Date of the auditions: 23 to 24 October 2019
    • Place of the auditions: Concert Hall of the Karol Kurpiński State Music School No. 4 73 Wiktorska St., Warsaw;
    • Duration of the auditions: 10 minutes for each participant;
    • Band: two pianos;
    • Repertoire:
      • Igor Stravinsky – Dance Sacrale from The Rite of Spring,,
      • Stanisław Moniuszko – Concert overture Fairy tale.

Stage II

    • Date of the auditions: 25 to 26 October 2019
    • Place of the auditions: District Cultural Centre Ursynów, 12 B, Kajakowa St., Warsaw;
    • Duration of the auditions: 20 minutes for each participant;
    • Band: Youth Warsaw Wind Orchestra;
    • Repertoire:
      • Antonin Dvorak – Serenade in D minor for Wind Instruments, op. 44,
      • Tomasz Dudziński – Film variations on the theme of the aria “Szumią jodły na gór szczycie” by S. Moniuszko.

Stage III

    • Date of the auditions: 27 October 2019
    • Place of the auditions: District Cultural Centre Ursynów, 12 B, Kajakowa St., Warsaw;
    • Duration of the auditions: 30 minutes for each participant;
    • Band: Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra;
    • Repertoire:
      • Gustav Holst – Second Suite in F for Military Band,
      • Artur Słotwiński – Year 1918 Overture for Wind Orchestra.

Gala Concert

    • Date: 27 October 2019
    • Place: District Cultural Centre Ursynów, 12 B, Kajakowa St., Warsaw;
    • Band: Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra;
    • Repertoire:
      • Tomasz Dudziński – Film variations on the theme of the aria “Szumią jodły na gór szczycie” by S. Moniuszko (3rd place winner),
      • Gustav Holst – Second Suite in F for Military Band (2nd place winner),
      • Artur Słotwiński – Year 1918 Overture for Wind Orchestra (1st place winner).
  1. The Organizer reserves the right to change the schedule of the Competition and to cancel the Competition in case of insufficient number of submitted participants. Participants will be informed about this fact by 23 September 2019. In case of cancellation of the Competition, the registration fee will be returned in full to the Competition participants to the bank account from which the payment was made, by 30 September 2019.

§ 5

    1. The Competition Jury will consist of eminent Polish conductors and composers. The Jury is chaired by Prof. Szymon Kawalla, DMus Hab.
    2. The composition of the Jury will be made public before the beginning of the Competition through the Competition website.
    3. The internal regulations of the jury will be established at the first meeting of the jury before the start of the auditions.
    4. The jury’s deliberations are confidential.
    5. The jury’s verdicts are final, irrevocable and incommunicable.

    § 6

    1. Winners of the Competition will be awarded the following prizes:
      • I place: concert with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences Representative Orchestra in the artistic season 2019/2020
      • II place: concert with Youth Warsaw Wind Orchestra in the artistic season 2019/2020
      • III place: concert with Wieniawa Wind Orchestra in the artistic season 2019/2020
    1. The winners of the Competition will receive diplomas and statuettes, and each participant of each stage will receive a diploma of participation in the Competition.
    2. The Competition Jury may change the structure of the awards and distinctions.
    3. The winners of the awards are entitled to the title of the Laureate of the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition 2019.
    4. In addition to the statutory awards, the jury will also award any prizes funded by institutions and private individuals.
    5. Applications for extra-regulatory prizes shall be accepted by the Competition Coordinator in consultation with the Organiser. They should be submitted by 20 October 2019.
    6. Any cash prizes, if any, will be paid out in the currency in which they have been deposited, after deduction of the tax due.

    § 7

    1. The final result of the Competition and the awarding of prizes and distinctions will take place during the Gala Concert on 27 October 2019.
    2. All winners are obliged to take part in the Gala Concert free of charge on 27 October 2019.
    3. Winners are obliged to implement the programme in accordance with the regulations.

    § 8

    1. Each participant gives the Organiser permission to record their artistic performances and their image, statements and interviews during the Competition.
    2. The Participant transfers to the Organiser all rights to performances of works presented in the Competition and to statements and interviews given by the Participant, as well as grants the Organiser permission to disseminate its image recorded in connection with participation in the Competition.
    3. The Participant allows the Organiser to use the Competition performances, interviews, statements and image both in full and in any selected fragments, adaptations, abbreviations and modifications and translations and declares that such use will not be considered to violate its good name.
    4. The Participant transfers to the Organiser the right to exclusive and territorially and temporally unlimited permission to perform derivative copyrights to the works referred to in § 8.1 and § 8.2. In particular, it permits the disposal and use of derivative works, including translations into other languages. The Participant also undertakes not to take any actions limiting this right in the future.
    5. The transfer of copyrights and economic rights referred to in § 8.1 – 8.4 is unlimited in time and territory and covers all fields of exploitation.
    6. The Organizer has the right to unrestricted disposal of the rights referred to in § 8, in particular to transfer them to other entities, and the participant is not entitled to remuneration on this account.

    § 9

    1. Pursuant to Art. 13 of the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation) (OJ L 2016.119.1 of 4 May 2016, hereinafter referred to as GDPR), the Organiser hereby informs that:
      1. The administrator of personal data of the Participants is the Warsaw Wind Music Association, 31 Nowogrodzka Street, 00-511 Warsaw.
      2. b. The controller has appointed a data protection supervisor to supervise the correctness of the processing of personal data of the participants, who may be contacted via e-mail: iodo@warsawwindmusic.pl.
      3. Personal data of participants will be processed for the purpose of organizing the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition 2019.
      4. Categories of personal data include: name and surname, telephone number, e-mail address, town and country of origin, biography, photo.
      5. Providing data is voluntary, but necessary for participation in the Competition.
      6. Personal data of participants may be transferred to entities processing personal data at the request of the administrator.
      7. The data will be kept for the period necessary to carry out the tasks of the Competition.
      8. The data of participants shall not be transferred to a third countries or an international organisations.
      9. The participants shall have the right to access the content of their data and the right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, right to object, right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of consent prior to its withdrawal.
      10. Participants have the right to file a complaint with the President of the Office for the Protection of Personal Data, if they consider that the processing of their personal data violates the regulations of the GDPR (President of the Personal Data Protection Office, ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warsaw).
      11. Data will not be processed automatically and will not be profiled.

    § 10

    1. In all matters related to the course of the Competition, and not falling within the competence of the jury, the final decisions are made by the Competition coordinator after consultation with the Competition Organizer.
    2. Any doubts concerning the provisions of these regulations shall be resolved on the basis of the Polish text.
    3. In matters not regulated by these regulations, the relevant provisions of the Polish law shall apply.
    4. Any possible disputes arising from the Competition and these regulations will be resolved by the court competent for the seat of the Organizer.
    5. 5. The explanations provided by the Organiser as well as any possible additions or amendments to the Competition Regulations are binding for all participants at the moment of their publication on the Competition website: www.wwecc.warsawwindmusic.pl.
